A sweet moment with Logan...

Little Logan has grown so fast! We had so much fun at his session and he was fascinated with everything at the studio. Including his belly and I luckily captured the image! Just after that he glanced back at Mom giggling at him and then he turned and gave me a beautiful grin. What a little sweetheart he is!

Ballerina babies galore...

We have had an abundance of ballerina babes in the studio lately... here is little Kaia from this morning ... she is such a happy baby! She is getting so big... it seems like just last month I was photographing her beautiful Mama's maternity portraits! Can't wait for your one year session.

Look closer ...it's not JUST another piece of camera equipment... it's only the most brilliant coffee mug I've ever seen. Seems they were handing out coffee mugs that look like the Canon 70-200mm L series lens at the Vancouver Olympic games. If only they were available for purchase....love it!

Santa Charity 2009

This year marks year #2 for our annual Santa Charity at the studio! What a great time we had ... all the beautiful holiday outfits we amazing to photograph. Santa had his photo taken with so many children... some who were very excited and some not so willing...

Santa was a trooper though and we were able to raise over $600 to donate to Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep. We were so thrilled because this charity is so important to us in so many ways. Thank you to everyone who attended and were a part of something so memorable to so many families!

Halloween bash 2009

This year's Halloween Bash was wonderful! It was so much fun to see all the kids dressed up...so many adorable and creative costumes! This is one of our favorite events of all year. For the second time we were able to donate to the Food bank of Lincoln and it feels so good to know how generous and thoughtful our clients are when it comes to such a great cause!

The kids had fun getting thier photo taken in costume and then decorating their own Halloween cookies. Our kids even got in on the fun ...Kelsey read Halloween stories to the kids and Mason impressed some of the little kids with a giant dangling spider from 2nd floor (the big hit was when he sent it down wearing underwear :) I've never seen kids laugh so hard...leave it to my child)

Thank you so much to those of you who were able to come and help us donate to such a great cause...we are so gratful for our amazing clients ...without you none of this would be possible!

Mattresses, Dresses, Desserts...OH MY!

We have had some really wonderful opportunities to work with many great businesses this year photographing their products in order to create a variety of marketing pieces for them. It has been very interesting - commercial shoots always are...depending on the angle, product or model. It is so nice however to expand our creativity and think out side the "portrait" box.

My favorite so far is our newest product, DESSERTS! Ok, I have to say it has taken an extreme amount of will power to not take a bite or two out of each one. I think it's been extra difficult for Cesar, Kelsey and Mason. Imagine having 20 different desserts sitting around your house and you were not allowed to eat them until they were done being photographed. Let me tell you... I am really tired of answering the question "Are you done with this one yet, can I eat it? Just one bite ...PUH-LEAAASE?" (and it's mostly from Cesar!) So here are a few of my favorite images so far - I know it's tough to not drool on it while photographing - there is always photoshop though...

The Estella Salon Crew...

Today I photographed the Crew at Estella Salon. It was so much fun...for such beautiful people they sure were reluctant to have their photos taken. I think they were won over in the end!

Grady has arrived...

Our amazing friend Krista has been blessed with her second beautiful baby boy, Grady! He is so gorgeous, his lips are to die for and he looks just like his Mama! Big Brother Ben is so proud and of course Mom and Dad are too. Congratulations again and again!!!

(You all know Krista without even realizing it - ALL the images that you have hanging in your home have at one point passed Krista's eyes and hands - she is the Manager at our wonderful Lab! (and one of my very best friends...thank you for everything you do Krista! )

Santa Clause is coming to town!

Ok, well he already did. And what fun it was to see him again! Santa is always a big hit and every year he visits our studio to see all our clients and hear what the kids want for Christmas and he loves having his picture taken!
This year was so fun because we were able to make it a benefit to our U.S. Troops! In exchange for a $10 donation or equal value calling card we donated a 4x6 portrait with Santa to each family. We were able to raise $650 in calling cards!!! Our goal was to connect families for the holidays and we absolutely did!
Thank you soooo much for supporting such a wonderful cause - I've said it before and I'll always say it - Our studio has the absolute best clients and friends! I want you to know that we consider each and every one of you our extended family and I hope you feel that way when you come here also!

Halloween Bash 2008

How fun it was to see all your children dressed up and ready to trick-or-treat!
This was our first year to hold a charity event for Halloween and it was so very successful! With your help we were able to raise over $150 in cash and a ton of food to go toward the Food Bank of Lincoln's Backpack program! The program helps children and families in Lincoln to go home each week with a backpack full of food. We are so glad to help support such a great cause and provide you with a complimentary 4x6 portrait.

We are so excited about next year's event already and can't wait to see all the new ghosts and goblins. Thank you again for supporting such a great cause!

The Amazing Chase

Have you ever watched the Amazing Race? Cesar and I watch it all the time and think...we could do that! Well. maybe ..... but we were able to see how we would fare in a smaller version called the Amazing chase. The event was held by St. Monica's of Lincoln ( a substance abuse treatment center for women) Our great friend Wendy coordinates the event and even with bribes of food and anything else I could think of she still wouldn't give up any secrets or hints before the race.

For those of you who don't know, the race is essentially a scavenger hunt with obstacles and challenges along the way - like: eat a foot-long hot dog as fast as you can to get the next clue( see below) Josh and Ashley were part of our team and Josh was able to get us on our way in about 10 seconds - I've never seen anything like it! It was SOOOOO much fun, I can't even explain to you what a hilarious time we had. You really need to check it out - I will post information about next years race for those of you who are interested in competing against us - we are in it to win!!!

This fall we held our first annual "Girls Afternoon Out Benefit" to support St. Monica's of Lincoln. We raised money to go towards the Amazing Chase fundraiser that they hold annually.

Ashley with Posh Tots and Vintage Glam boutique was available with many cute children's items as well as handbags and unique Jewelry. Kelsey modeled the "Baby legs" on her arms and Addison (Ashley's daughter) was precious in her Petti-skirt!

Bella Spa was available for chair massage and a mini pedicure. We all felt so pampered!
If you have never been to Bella you really are missing out... they are so wonderful -everything they do is so relaxing and incredible!

The Parthanon and James Arthur Vineyards were so generous in donating food and wine for the event and everyone was stuffed and happy! Thank you so much for your kindness!

Keep your eye out for the next years event - you won't want to miss it!

Minnesota

We were able to get away for a bit just before our Christmas season to travel to Minnesota.
The Highlight, of course, for the kids, was the Mall of America and the Nickelodeon Universe that was in the middle of the HUGE mall. They had a blast on the roller-coasters, rides and Aquarium. We were even able to catch a live concert while we were at the mall!

We were also able to take a visit into downtown to see a client of ours that works for the Guthrie Theatre, David. His Grandparents used to own our home and studio. I met David when he was in town for Easter earlier this year and introduced himself. He asked if his family could come back and take a photo on our staircase as they had always done when they were young. What an amazing opportunity it was to meet his family and learn so many things about the history of the studio. What an incredible structure the Guthrie Theater is... so beautiful! We very much enjoyed our tour and the view from their sky deck. Thank you again David for such a nice visit!

Another highlight for me was being able to take a tour of one of our labs that we use, WHCC. They were able to take us through and show us how the printing process works and allowed us to see all the behind the scenes projects. I'm always so curious about those type of things - it was very interesting, I think even the kids were amazed!

The Grand Theater

Our God-daughter is turning 4! I can't believe how very big she has gotten. She is full of energy and is such a lovable little bug - we have so much fun with her around - her dance moves are amazing and she has her mother's facial expressions down just perfectly! We are so excited to announce that Michael, who is one of our seniors from 2008 has just received a full ride scholarship to UCLA for his amazing dance abilities! He took 2nd place overall among 347 dancers. We couldn't have been happier to hear the news. Michael is full of energy and will go very far - we are so happy for him and all he has to offer.

You may see or hear Michael this summer as he will be helping us out at the studio during our busy senior season. Congratulations - we are sooooo proud of you!

Thanks to all that attended our Open House on Sunday. We had such a great time visiting with all of you and showing you around our home. Also thanks to all of you who brought such sweet gifts and well wishes, we are truly grateful for your thoughtfulness!
With everyone so busy we did not get a chance to take too many pictures (go figure!) but we managed one of our great Clown for the day and his family! Thanks Jon and Donna for such sweet hearts you have and for donating your time, it is much appreciated, and the kids had a blast with your creative balloon animals, swords, flowers etc... I also still have my ladybug bracelet you so thoughtfully crafted to match my outfit. :)

When I heard that Sam Puc' was visiting Omaha for her nationwide tour of her Speaking engagement "Bellies and Babies" I made sure to snatch up 7 tickets, one for each one of us at at the studio! For those of you who don't know, I heard Sam speak (with Dave Junion) for the first time 7 years ago when I was pregnant with Mason. (our youngest) It was right then that I made the decision to pursue my passion and begin Captured Memories. I credit so much inspiration to that single moment and every time I've gotten the opportunity to hear Sam speak I have been blessed over and over.
It was wonderful to visit with her and hear her speak, she was sweet enough to let us have a quick picture with her too - thanks Sam! From left to right: Alicia, Paula, Sam, Tracee, Shauna, Sandra. (Stephanie & Christa not pictured)

Sam also founded the volunteer organization Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep. Our studio is proudly involved with NILMDTS and coordinates the Lincoln area and we have a great group of photographers that serve with such passion and heart. It is an amazing foundation that helps families who are dealing with the misfortune of an infant death by providing professional photographs at no charge. The power of this simple act is truly amazing.

First Position Dance Shoot

Every year we photograph a couple of Dance studios for a great, great person and business woman, Jen. This year Jen's beautiful little guy blessed us with his presence at the shoot and was able to pick up a few dance poses from Mom. Check out the great way she juggled both very important things at once!

Vacation...ok, a great excuse for beach portraits!

In March we finally took a break from un-packing and organizing the house and studio to take a deep breath of fresh Tampa beach ocean air!!! My parents live there and it makes the best vacation spot - we of course took advantage of the beautiful scenery and did take some great images of the kids and our family - surprise, surprise! I just love this one of the kids, I have an amazing way we will be displaying it in the house, if you come to Our Open House on May 18th you can take a sneak peek!
We also went over to Disney and had fun over there too- it is so fun and so overwhelming at the same time - you could be at the same park for several days and still not see it all! We did get to meet the incredibles, notice how Cesar and I picked our respective spot in the image :) On the way home Cesar got the brilliant idea of turning on the GPS on the plane, at one point it was up over 500 MPH - pretty freaky to think about when you are calmly watching "Enchanted" and eating the "In-Flight" snacks minding your own business - Guess I never really gave much thought to how fast they must go!
We had a great time, it always goes way too fast and I can't wait to visit again soon. We really need to put together a studio beach/vacation portrait package - Any takers?

Senior Model Shoot -Class of 2009!

This year we had a lot of fun with our class of 2009 Seniors who came into the studio and let us have fun trying out new things in our new studio! Lot of great shots and such amazing seniors. We esspecially had fun with Jewel who let us try out Kelsey's tutu's as a "let's try it and see what happens" she was such a trooper and we ended up with some really striking images! Thanks to all our seniors and also to Sandra, Steph and Christa who anticipated every single step to make things run smooth. We are so excited for this years senior season!

Mason's Creation

Alright, so I officially have to let the world know that we do have plenty of food for our kids to survive at our house. I know, let me explain: So I come down to the kitchen one morning to find that Mason had decided to make his own lunch. Great I thought, we must be doing something right to have the kids being so independent as to make their own lunch and not even ask for help!
So I figured I better do the "Mom " thing and check it out, you know, just to be sure that he has included all the must haves. Main dish, fruit, treat and drink, you know what I mean- because I have seen them try to pull past two snacks and no fruit or pop for a drink or my favorite, Halloween candy for a side dish!
Well Mr. Mason apparently decided to take a couple of his favorites and put them together, his creation... a mustard and saltine cracker sandwich! Try as I might he insisted that it remain in his lunch box and needless to say I had one hungry five year old on my hands after school!

Home show 2008

We had a great time again at the annual Home Builders show in Feb. We met so many new people and see many of our clients also - Oh my, how your children have grown in just a few months!
Our kids always love the show too - I'm not ever sure why they enjoy it so much but I discovered that their favorite part about it is the concession stand. Go figure!

Iowa Conference

In February we traveled to Iowa for the Annual Professional Photographers state conference. We were able to catch up with some friends and see some great speakers. It was Sandra's first conference and it was great to see her get excited about everything. We also had the opportunity to visit our great friend Darci-Lu and her new studio. Bellies blooming that is! Have you noticed how many beautiful bellies there are around town lately? We were out shopping yesterday and it was amazing the number of women with cute tummies. Even Cesar, who doesn't really ever pay much attention to that type of thing, mentioned how many he was noticing. I love it!
It's also so great to see so many at our studio lately. I just love photographing a pregnant belly, all the wonderful curves and emotion that comes with is just amazing to capture. The looks that couples give each other when they think I 'm not looking, it's great. This couple is just so amazing and I love the strength that his arms and eyes give to the image. If you know someone who is pregnant and would love to capture such a special time - send them our way. We also include a complimentary newborn session with our maternity portraits.

Today I had the pleasure of photographing little Will. Who, like all 18 month little boys, has so much energy! If anyone ever figures out how to bottle that up... I was taking pictures today for our new brochure and glanced over to see my trusty alligator sitting on the floor. Those of you with children, ( and some un-cooperative adults I might add :) know exactly who this is. I'm not so sure that I would have gotten some of the expressions that I have without this amazing friend. What an interesting little guy he has turned out to be - not sure what I would do with out him! So, I know I'm nuts but, we did a small photo shoot this afternoon with him and I think we've decided that this is his best side. - Be on the look-out for more adventures -I'm thinking I may take a peek and post some of my favorite pics he snuck his way into (more like "was dragged into) during other shoots!

Sessions begin!

Well, we are starting to get back into the swing of things here at the studio and I have to say I never thought I would be so happy to be back at work! There is something great about being back into a routine and getting a camera in my hand again! Well, the un-packing is still in full force for the time being - but we are frantically preparing for all the sessions we have scheduled. It has been so much fun seeing everything coming together - tiring, but fun! Our painter has been here working tirelessly even through illness and exhaustion! We are so grateful for her huge talent and attention to detail! We keep finding more and more things to work on or change - of course! It will be a work in progress for a few more weeks as we finish some detail work and get things running smoothly... please pardon our dust for a little while!

Announcing...

Yes.... finally we are announcing our new location! Many of you already know about this great place due to my inability to keep a secret longer than 5 minutes! Our new place is located at 1990 C St. Right on the corner of 20th & "C" streets. Next year it will be 100 years old and it has such incredible details and character on all three floors - (yes, we will be cleaning ...a lot!) Any volunteers? The studio will be on the first floor - so you will enter directly to the studio. - We have many plans for decor and extras we were unable to have before. The grand staircase is going to be great for photos and the natural lighting will likely be one of my favorite things to photograph with. Our move date is on Dec 26th - we will be closed (technically) until Jan 10th - feel free to call or e-mail anytime in between as we will be checking messages often. We can't wait to see everyone over at the new studio - Call today to schedule your session for anytime after Jan 10th!

This morning while getting ready, my youngest, Mason, and I were having a conversation about the fact that we had a new tube of toothpaste finally ( for a week we had been attempting to get every last drop out of the last tube!). Towards the end we were having to use two of us ... one to squeeze the other to hold the brush!
The funny thing is, while I thought nothing of the new tube - Mason grabbed the toothpaste and looked at me wide eyed and smiling "There's a lot in this one Mommy! Wow, we got a whole new one?" and with the biggest, most innocent and sweet smile he looked at me and I realized that in life... Mason still looks at the little things and gets excited. What a great way to live!
Of course I scooped him into my arms, snuggled and kissed his sweet face, thinking, "What a great way to start the day - happy as can be - all because of a new tube of toothpaste.

SANTA CLAUSE IS COMING TO TOWN!

It's that time of year again - we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Santa Clause at the studio! This is always so fun for us and the kids to get a chance to visit and have a portrait taken with Santa himself! I love seeing the looks on the faces of your children - so many expressions! Come eat a couple cookies and choose your keepsake 4x6 portrait. Schedule quickly - this year he will be here for one day only - Friday December 7th! We are already starting to book up for this date! Session fee for this session is $25 per child.

Harper Grace...

I don't like to have favorites of any of our children, because of course they are all wonderful joys that we are blessed with...however...if I were to HAVE to choose, Harper would definitely be somewhere near the top of my list! Harper's parents have been clients of ours when their only "children" were their dogs, Macaw and peacocks - yes that's right. The first time I met little Harper she was of course a very tiny little darling and we loved every image of her. She is certainly one of the most enjoyable children to photograph and my heart jumps every time she arrives at the studio for a session or a visit. She always greets us with a huge smile and is continually happy about life! I thought I'd share a couple of the images that we recently took in her Halloween costume - she just makes me SMILE!

At a conference back in March we were able to meet back up with our new friends
Karen and Barry. Karen, who just happens to also design all of our amazing jewelry! It is always so much fun getting together with them - we all love food and photography and so it always makes for great dinners and tons of ideas. The guys have been dubbed the "maintenance men" of the studios. :) Thank god for them though - you gotta love those handy types!

Camera room updates

We were hard at work creating new walls for the studio back in March. Well... Cesar was hard at work, and the kids made a mess, but it all turned out in the end. I envisioned a paneled wall and Cesar made it happen. The kids thought "helping paint" meant drawing their names in paint on the walls. The red wall turned out great and it works so well in portraits - it has been great to get creative with the new inspirations.

Senior Model Shoot

Class of 2008 is here and this year we held our first "Model Shoot". The seniors that we photographed were so fun. We spent all weekend in the old Salvation army building that is being renovated - The owner was so generous to allow us to take over for a few days. It was so fun to be somewhere new and test out new lighting and poses. We wandered around and found old leaky rooms, cinder block walls and a vintage freight elevator. The images turned out great and made for a perfect senior campaign. To check out the images - go to our senior website and enter the password "models" on the clients page. SANDRA!!!

I am so excited to introduce Sandra to everyone! Sandra started with us in July. She was thrown into the world of High School Senior portrait season immediately!
Sandra has been so great to have here at the studio - many of you may have already gotten to know her and spoke with her on the phone while booking your sessions. We are so glad to have her, as she does wonders in keeping things moving along and running smoothly. It has been incredible to have a few extra minutes for planning and design work. Thanks for all your hard work Sandra!

It's been a while...

Yes... it has been a while since I have updated the blog - this year has been crazy - we tripled the number of seniors we shot last year and have photographed MANY more families and children this year than ever - I have been honestly trying to catch my breath! Thank you so much to all of our amazing clients who are so great to work with - you are of course the lifeline of our business and allow me to live out my dream everyday!
Many changes have happened and I can't wait to tell you all about them - Keep posted - I am vowing to post something every week or more to give you something new to read about!

2007 Home and Garden Show

Immediatly following our return from Iowa we set up for the annual Home and Garden show at the lancaster event center. We had a great turnout! Many stopped to see our new products and book a session. It is always so much fun to see everybody out and about. Esspecially on such a freezing cold weekend!

Our booth changed this year thanks to Cesar's handiwork! We recieved many comments and heard many nice stories from so many of you . The big hit this year were the addition of our jewelry and handbags as well as our Designer Portraits.
We can't wait for next year!

Iowa Conference

In Feb. we traveled to Iowa to attend the Iowa state convention for professional photographers. It was such a great experience - not only were we able to meet back up with Karn and Barry from Daytona, we also had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful and talented photographers!

It was a great time - we learned so many great things. It is always refreashing to take a step back and look at what we are doing and how we can change to better the studio.

This was Hillary's first conference and it was really exciting to see her eyes light up when listening to the speakers. It is great for our studio to have someone who's mind never stops turning with ideas, although she doesn't always see it as a gift! :)

Daytona SPI conference

We started out this year traveling to Daytona Beach to attend the annual Senior photographers international conference. We learned tons and met even more great people! While walking through the trade show we met Karen and Barry - (owners of our new jewelry line) and Judy, who works with them. We had a great time hanging out and taking pictures - also a quick run through the ocean at midnight makes for a funny story. (We since found out that this is apparently a bad idea with Daytona being the shark bite capital of the world - yikes!)

We were also blessed to be able to meet up with Sandy Puc' and Dave Junion - founders of N.I.L.M.D.T.S. One of the most amazing organizations I've ever known and I am so proud to be a part of it. Amzingly wonderful people with huge hearts - thanks for all your kind words!

Cesar and I took some great shots while we were there - he's becoming quite the photographer now, wheather he likes it or not! All in all, it was a wonderful learning experience and we were able to walk away with so many great ideas for the studio, can't wait to try them all out!
